The Tapestry
BBC Sport
To launch the BBC’s coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, we made a film out of over 600 unique embroidered frames. It was a feat never before attempted at this scale, or level of detail. We brought opera megastar Sir John Tomlinson to Abbey Road Studios to sing a stirring rendition of Russian folk song. And we created a real 7 metre-long tapestry which hung in the National Football Museum in Manchester.
600 unique frames. A fully embroidered animation.
We co-opted every embroidery machine in London to undertake this mammoth task. Huge thanks to the London Embroidery Studio, BlinkInk and of course, director Nicos Livesey.
